I´m just guessing, maybe one of your Control XL has a different CC value for the same knob than the other.

The editor (which I didn´t know about) seems to allow to configure the CC values for the controls and store it per SYSEX message in the Control XL.

Have you used the "Novation Launch Control XL Editor" that is mentioned in manual for this codec? The thing is, the codec expects certain MIDI CC values to be sent by the Control XL to the codec e. This could be a problem with my computer as I have problems when using multiple USB devices at one time but the Control XL has usually been good working with others I don't think that they are both being assigned to the same device in the dropdown menu the Control XL is available in both How would I know if the remote override works? ive not used it before. I locked both controllers to a different PSQ1684įirst controller uses Novation Control XL port and second used Novation Control XL port 4 in and 5 for out, these are the only 2 options except for Novation Control MIDI3 which doesn't work Note that if the controllers are not locked to a specific device and the remote codec has a remotemap entry for a device for which a midi track in the sequencer exists, both controllers may be automatically assigned to the same device and controls when the midi track is selected. To which device have you assigned the controllers? Are they locked to specific devices?ĭo both control surfaces have the correct MIDI port? Does remote overrides work for both controllers? Which control surface/remote codec do you use for both Control XL? I have setup the second as Control XL 2 but by the looks of it the remote map and codec are not being used for second XL I plug in, basically the top row of knobs work in default manner but the controller is not mapped as it should beĭo I need to create a different remote map and codec under a different name? how does this all work? What’s also cool about the XL is that Novation has added the extra while keeping it to the same size as the Launchpad itself.Dallasknight wrote:I have since bought a second Control XL but can't get them both to work On the customisation front, each knob is backlit the default arrangement is red for the top row, yellow for the centre row, and green for the bottom, but through the Launch Control XL Editor software, you can change these colour assignments, using red, yellow, green, or orange. If using the Launch Control doesn’t satisfy your control itch, you might be a candidate for upscaling to the Launch Control XL, which includes more buttons (adding track solo and record arming, among other things), extra rows of knobs and pads, and importantly, eight faders. I guess what they have in common is pads – they all have a certain number – but also a clean, focused, design ethic, which makes them very straightforward to set up and use. There are also the excellent Launchkey keyboards, in 25, 49, and 61 key varieties, as well as a Launchkey Mini version for the dedicated mobile diehard. It began with the Launchpad, which continues to thrive as the Launchpad S, and as the dinky little Launchpad Mini – and of course there’s the Launchpad Pro, which has been announced and you never know, may be released by the time you read this. If you’ve visited the Novation website, or you’ve been paying attention generally, you’ll be aware that the Launch Control is part of a wider range of launch-type products. You can use it with Novation’s iOS apps, or any other app that’ll receive MIDI messages. As usual, you’ll need an iPad Camera Connection Kit to attach it, but then you’re good – it gets its power from the iPad. When you’re deploying the factory and user templates, remember that you can switch between them at any time during a performance or recording you can flip from launching clips in Live to sending MIDI to other devices and hardware without missing a beat.Ī bonus feature is that the Launch Control is iPad-compatible.

If you don’t have Live already, that’s cool because the Launch Control includes a free copy of Ableton Live Lite, so you’re ready to go straight out of the box it’s a really nice little bundle.

Our expanded walkthrough should fill you in on what to expect from the Launch Control, and how to get it going with Live. This is where the Launch Control comes in.

The Launchpad has it covered for Live clip and scene launching, and for a certain level of simplistic mixer-type control, but sometimes you still need faders and knobs to take care of business. But there are times when you might want a different type of controller.
